For a few glorious weeks, both twins were sleeping. Then, seemingly overnight, both started waking every couple of hours, fighting naps and surfacing the moment you put them down. The 4 month change has arrived, and with twins it has arrived twice.
The most useful thing to know is that this is not a step backwards. Your babies' sleep is maturing into more adult-like cycles, which is permanent progress. They are not broken, they are learning to sleep in a new way.
Steady beats clever
The instinct is to overhaul everything, and that usually makes it last longer. Hold the daytime rhythm steady, keep both twins on sensible wake windows so they do not tip into overtired, and give each baby the chance to resettle so they practise linking the new cycles.
Two babies, one phase
Because it is developmental and the twins are the same age, they tend to go through it together. That is exhausting, but it means one phase, one strategy. Keep both on a matched schedule so their wakings cluster, split the nights with your partner, and know the worst of it passes.
